2 bikes stolen, mayor takes blame for open garage
WASHINGTON — After two bikes were stolen from the Washington, D.C., mayor’s home, a police officer was reportedly investigated for neglect of duty, but the mayor says he takes “full responsibility” for leaving the garage open.
A spokeswoman for Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said Monday the Fentys left the garage open and the officer guarding the mayor’s home followed proper procedure. Mafara Hobson says two children’s bikes were swapped for two mountain bikes June 3.
The police union says an officer is being investigated for neglect of duty. Union leader Kristopher Baumann says the officer immediately reported the theft when suspects were seen on a security camera.
The incident was first reported by The (Washington) Examiner.
