Wash. county plans blood drive to fight mosquitoes
WEST RICHLAND, Wash. — A county in Washington state is promoting mosquito control awareness by doing some blood sucking of its own.
The Benton County Mosquito Control District is hosting a blood drive Friday at its West Richland office as part of National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, which runs June 20-26. The district says the blood will go to the Red Cross, not the insects.
The district hopes that the blood drive will get under the skin of some residents by making them aware of the hazards posed by the little blood sucking insects and teaching residents to eliminate standing water around homes where the suckers may breed.
