BOSTON (GaeaTimes.com)- The latest craze to hit the shoe industry may not be called a shoe at all. Vibram’s FiveFingers is a revolutionary new concept in shoe design that has taken the world by storm. The glove-like shoe has been called ideal for people who like to run barefoot with the five fingers of the wearer fitting into separate pockets.

The idea though has introduced by Vibram back in 2006 but the design suddenly became a huge hit after many professional runners endorsed the product. Some of the runners in the recent Boston Marathon were also seen running in the FiveFingers. The Italian shoe manufacturer is presently struggling to keep up with the demands for the revolutionary shoe and have, reportedly, tripled the size of their Boston warehouse. The company has reportedly seen a huge hike in the sales of the shoes with as much as $50 million coming in this year alone. Some podiatrics have however warned that the shoe may not be for everyone, especially those who are not used to running regularly. They have also warned diabetes patients and obese people from using the product.

In spite of the warnings, the Vibram FiveFingers has become a must have for all the shoe collectors and the people who like the idea of running barefoot. The concept of the FiveFingers first came to Robert Fliri who approached the 75 year old company with the idea. His motive was to create a design that would allow the wearer to feel barefooted while running and also be protected from the abrasions and dirt on the ground.
