Missing Maroa boa found by surprised driver
MAROA, Ill. — An out-of-its-element boa constrictor missing in central Illinois’ corn and soybean country since late last month has been found. Unfortunately for the snake, it was found by a surprised driver who accidentally drove over the reptile.
Maroa police officer Bill Koonce told the Decatur Herald & Review the snake was run over Tuesday near a local high school.
Macon County Animal Control officers took the snake to a veterinarian. It isn’t clear how the snake is doing, but Koonce says it appears to be moving as if it is OK.
The snake’s owner reported it missing from his home in Maroa on Aug. 31. Maroa is near Decatur.
Boas are native to Central and South America. Local officials worried that if the snake wasn’t found it wouldn’t survive winter.
