It’s a bee market! Worker bees swarm Wall Street

NEW YORK — Talk about workaholic bees.

On Memorial Day, when most traders had the day off and businesses were closed, thousands of tireless worker bees were buzzing on Wall Street.

The insects swarmed around the doorway of a high-end restaurant, Cipriani Wall Street, on Monday. Others filled the air.

Before they could enjoy a power lunch, the bees were sucked up in a low-pressure vacuum by the police department’s beekeeper.

It’s not clear where the bees came from.

Officer Anthony Planakis says the bees likely were looking for a new home. He says they probably were suffering overcrowding in the hive, or maybe the queen was failing.

It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was stung, but the swarm attracted the attention of dozens of onlookers.

The bees will be relocated to a hive in Connecticut.
